Welcome to GisVin
GisVin
Ltd is primarily a contract grape juicing plant established in 2001 by
four growers to process Gisborne fruit for wineries without local
facilities, with the aim of enhancing juice quality and in turn the
reputation of the Gisborne wine industry. Prior to the establishment of
GisVin these grapes had been transported in bulk trucks to their
respective wineries situated mainly in Auckland with a smaller
percentage in Hawkes Bay, Martinborough and Blenheim with extended traveling times compromising quality.
The state of the art facility commissioned in February 2002
processing 2,900 tonnes of grapes increasing to over 7,500 tonnes
on behalf of 23 clients in 2008. Although the underlying concept is
still the same GisVin now provides contract wine making with in excess
of 1.53 million litres fermented in 2008.
Since its inception
there has been an ongoing capital requirement for plant expansion and
at present the operation is based on six presses, including 5 Diemme bag presses and a new Della Toffola PFC 200. Clarification is by a choice or combination of a new generation
Westphalia GSC 95 centrifugal separator, flotation technology, or cold
settling, along with rotary vacuum filtration of lees. Tank capacity is
84 Scada controlled tanks holding a total of 1,900,000 litres. Systems
in place incorporate an operational culture based on food safety and
product integrity obtaining standards that exceed the accreditation
requirements of customers. These include a HACCP based management
system, BRC compliance, SWNZ Winery accreditation www.nzwine.com/swnz
and Vinsight winery software. GisVin has successfully completed the Wine Standards Management Plan audit during the 2009 vintage.
GisVin has undergone a major expansion in anticipation for the 2009 vintage, including, a second 12 tonne intake bin, a second Destemmer and crusher, extra must chilling and refrigeration capacity, Della Toffola Press, more wine tanks and a bigger lab and office space.
GisVin will continue to expand the operation in line with increased
customer demand for Gisborne grapes providing both existing and new
clients with a full wine making service which in turn relieves pressure
on continuous investment for increased production at clients own
facilities.
